Description Black to dark brown, some albino and other varieties are available through selective breeding. They grow up to eight feet in length. Climate 70 - 80F during the days, cooler at night. Habitat The black rat snake can be found in the north-central United States. As with all snakes, provide a hiding spot, climbing branches and a basking light. Provide water in an untippable bowl. Feeding Rodents. Notes The black rat snake keeps well in captivity, although they have been know to grow quite large.
