Do you pay for rescues?
Do you think it's O.K purchase sick animals?
If you pay money to "save" an animal is it an adoption, purchase or a rescue?
I hear on the craiglist and other places about rescuers willing to pay for sick and injured animals to "save " them and I just don't understand why?

To me in that case it's a matter of how much compassion you have and it would be a purchased rescue .

Scott,
Can you really purchase a rescue? A rescue is a animal that would die if not for your care. If you purchase a rescue would you not be funding that same person or pet store for more animals to harm and condeming not one but many more for rescue. I truly believe in NOT funding those types of people. The greater good is putting those people out of business so they can't hurt another animal. Yes, One animal will get sacrificed, it hurts. Just my opinions......
I also believe there is always an exception sometimes, pet stores and people get reptiles dumped on them and they want to insure the reptile goes to a good home and charge a small adoption fee or what ever the case maybe....but, those are usually not sick and injuryed to the point that they need rescueing or they will die.
I know you adopt alot of boas from rescues but, you have a breeding project your working on. Which is something pretty cool because you could be getting your boas from pet stores, so it's great that some unwanted reptiles are getting a home.
Nothing is ever black or white...grey is a color too.......

We have not had to pay for any rescues most come with supplies, tanks even food. The people are just glad to know they are going to a new home. The pet stores we deal with gives us the animals and we fill out their paperwork and they fill out ours. Maybe deliberately buying sick animals can occasionally be necessary to save them from abuse and neglect from a private party. Paying for a sick animal is considered a rescue and you have them fill out the paperwork as such. As far as looking for sick animals to make better that seems really odd since we get in so many that require round the clock care. Although as we all know most of the animals we get in are sick and don't always have the best personality. I have to agree with Scott nothing in the rescue business is black or white. Many people give us their animals to die because they can not say goodbye. It can be heart wrenching doing rescue but you do what you got to do.

I would do anything in my power to save an animal in harms way...and I do mean anything.
