NEXT MEETING FRIDAY JANUARY 12, 2007 7:30 Brown Education Building The Houston Zoo Houston, Texas Care and Husbandry of the Malaysian Snail Eating Turtle " by Mike Rapley The decline of turtle and tortoise populations worldwide has been cause for serious concern for more than twenty years. Over the past decade the impact of the Chinese market on the already critical status of Asian turtles has reached devastating levels. One species of turtle that is under threat from the food markets and pet trade is Malaysian Snail Eating Turtle (Malayemys subtrijuga). Malayemys was added to the IUNC RED List in 2003 and recently to CITES Appendix II in 2005.
